Two Breaux Bridge men die in Bayou Teche

Bodies recovered after failing to return from fishing trip in pirogue, LDWF says

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered the bodies of two Breaux Bridge men in Bayou Teche Thursday afternoon after they did not return from an early-morning fishing trip in a pirogue.

According to a news release, the bodies of Reese Hebert, 21, and Timothy Guidry, 20, were found in Bayou Teche just south of Breaux Bridge.

Agents learned the two men went out fishing in a pirogue around 1 a.m. Thursday about 100 yards south of a private fishing pier. When they didn’t return, the mother of one of the victims searched the bayou and found a partially-sunken pirogue and alerted authorities.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket, according to the news release. The bodies were turned over to the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
