LDWF rescues boaters stranded on Lake Pontchartrain

Two men found safe Monday night on sea wall after motor stalled, LDWF says

Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries rescued two boaters near midnight Monday on Lake Pontchartrain in St. John the Baptist Parish.

According to a news release, agents were notified at 9:15 p.m. Monday that two boaters had been stranded between Manchac Pass and Frenier Landing.

The men, ages 35 and 42, called authorities after the motor on their bass boat stalled and pushed the vessel toward the rocky shoreline. But they didn’t have a GPS and couldn’t be reached by cellphone, so agents had to search a large area before locating them.

Eventually they found the men on a rock sea wall because they had abandoned their boat, which was swamped in 3-foot seas.

They were transported to the Frenier Boat Launch, where they received minor medical treatment before being released.

The St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard also participated in the search.
