Deer of the Year
With deer season under way, there’s no better way to track your season than to post photos of your kills on the Nikon Deer of the Year Contest, for which you also can be eligible to win great prizes.

Prizes will be awarded monthly to the best photo from that month as determined by LouisianaSportsman.com staff. Each monthly winner will receive a Sportsman Gear prize package and a Louisiana Sportsman magazine subscription.

Monthly winners will qualify for a user voting session at the end of the season, during which our users will choose the LouisianaSportsman.com Nikon Deer of the Year. The winner will receive a prize package to be announced.

The rules are simple:

• Take a picture of you with a deer killed during the 2010-11 season.
• Upload the photo to the Nikon Deer of the Year photo gallery.
• Be a registered user of LouisianaSportsman.com.
• Write a short account of your hunt during the posting process.

 2nd time to ever shoot gun...im not a big hunter but my dad had been showing me pics of this deer in deer cam but never in my wildest dream think i wud see it. well on christmas evening i decided to go sit in stand. well i seen 4 doe come out and eat a while then walked off. then min later 2 more walked straight across lane...then bout 15 min later im playing on my cell phone and i juss happened to look up and seen horns (fyi, my 1st time to ever see a buck in real life) and my heart immediately started pounding and i got really really nervous. the deer was soo far away i cudnt tell how big it was. i immediately got gun up in shooting position and the deer was walking pretty fast so i really thought i was about to miss him,and about that time the lil gun prop thing i had my arm propped on made a loud squeak and i guess deer heard it and stopped and turned and looked dead at me. soon as he did i just aimed above his shoulder and shot. soon as it went off i put gun down and called my dad. i told him that i had shot a big one and he asked if it jumped or anything when i shot...i told him i didnt know cuz i guessed i closed my eyes...lol...well i waited on parents to get there then we walked out bout 150 to 160 yards where i thought i shot him/her and found blood. we followed it a good ways in woods and found it!!! i was sooo excited then we noticed it was a female with velvet completely covering horns. i just love the fact its my first buck to kill and i killed a hemorphodite...im getting it mounted and naming her lady gaga!! =0)
